PharmD Overview

Appalachian College of Pharmacy (ACP) is Virginia’s only three-year Doctor of Pharmacy Program. Our curriculum offers intense training in a unique setting in Southwest Virginia, a place where you develop into a professional pharmacist with an appreciation for the critical role a pharmacist plays in patient care and community health, especially in rural and underserved communities in Central Appalachia and similar places around the world.

Our innovative Doctor of Pharmacy Program is an educational approach that allows you to enter the job market one year sooner than conventional four-year pharmacy schools. Southwest Virginia’s low cost of living provides an added financial benefit. ACP combines advanced facilities and a serene setting that allow you to focus on your studies. The program’s didactic and experiential education focus on the application of expert knowledge and the development of clinical skills to deliver optimal pharmaceutical care to patients in community pharmacies, hospitals, ambulatory care clinics, and other nontraditional settings such as rural outreach clinics. ACP’s experiential education portion of the curriculum has additional requirements such as immunizations, drug screens, CPR certification, and more that are outlined in our cost of attendance. In addition to the didactic and experiential experiences, students are required to complete 100 hours of community service through our Pharmacists in Community Service (PICS) program. Giving back to the underserved communities within our region is the very foundation of ACP.

In addition to individual pages on our ACP’s website, admissions, program and experiential requirements for the Doctor of Pharmacy program are included in our Student Handbook and Course Catalog.
