Andy Bowman is a Roanoke, Virginia native and a 1987 graduate of Cave Spring High School. He graduated from the Campbell University School of Pharmacy in 1993 with a Doctor of Pharmacy degree and also completed his undergraduate study at Campbell in the pre-pharmacy curriculum.
Bowman comes to ACP from Campbell University College of Pharmacy & Health Sciences where he has served for the 24 years. He is also served as the Southeastern District Representative on the North Carolina Board of Pharmacy for 8 years, including 2 terms as President of the Board.
At Campbell, Bowman served as the Director of Continuing Professional Education and as a Clinical Assistant Professor of Pharmacy Practice. Bowman was active on numerous committees including the PharmD Admissions Committee, Faculty & Staff Development Committee, Scholarship Committee, the University Athletics Committee, University Student Life Committee; and was an advisor to Kappa Psi Pharmaceutical Fraternity, Phi Lambda Sigma and the Pre-Pharmacy Club.
He is a previous member and Chairman of the North Carolina Pharmacists Recovery Network and a previous member of the board of directors of the North Carolina Professional Health Program. During his time on the North Carolina Board of Pharmacy, he served as the Board of Pharmacy representative on the NC DHHS Medicaid Managed Care Quality Committee and the NC DHHS Opioid Prescription Drug Abuse Advisory Committee. He is also a member of the American Pharmacists Association and the North Carolina Association of Pharmacists, the American Academy of Colleges of Pharmacy, the National Association of Boards of Pharmacy and the American Society for Pharmacy Law;
His pharmacy work experience includes numerous community pharmacies. He is a registered pharmacist in Virginia and in North Carolina and is a certified trainer for APhA Pharmacy-Based Immunizations for Pharmacy Technicians; and an APhA Immunization Training Program facilitator.
He has been published on numerous occasions, including in an “Ask Andy” column of the Senior News, Blue Ridge Edition, in Roanoke; and in the pharmacy journal, “U.S. Pharmacist.” Bowman also provided a weekly radio call-in show, “Ask Andy” on 960AM WFIR in Roanoke in the 1990s.
Bowman and his family have endowed scholarships established at Campbell University College of Pharmacy & Health for PharmD students interested in pursuing a residency in oncology pharmacy and at Bluefield University. The Bowman family created the memorial scholarships in honor of Andy’s late brother, Daniel G. Bowman, an administrator at Bluefield College, Radford University; and the Roanoke County, Bedford County and Craig County Public School Systems, who died from a rare cancer in 2014.
When not in the classroom or in the pharmacy, Bowman serves as color commentator for college football games. He has 11 years of broadcasting experience including games with the Campbell University Fighting Camels and the Catawba College Indians. Bowman has appeared on the Big South Network, ESPN Plus, FloFootball and called games on numerous radio channels and live stream broadcasts.
