Dr. Jen Hammons, PharmD, DrPH, is the Director of Rural Health Advancement at the Appalachian College of Pharmacy. A proud two-time graduate of ACP, she earned both her Doctor of Pharmacy and Doctor of Public Health degrees, combining clinical pharmacy practice with public health leadership and rural health advocacy.
An unapologetically Appalachian healthcare leader, Dr. Hammons is passionate about improving healthcare access and health outcomes in underserved rural communities through innovative pharmacist-led care models, workforce development, prevention, and public health advocacy. Her work focuses on chronic disease management, social determinants of health, and the creation of sustainable healthcare solutions for medically underserved populations across Central Appalachia. She is also a strong advocate for pharmacist provider status and the expanded role of pharmacists in addressing healthcare disparities through clinical and public health practice.
Prior to joining ACP, Dr. Hammons served as Director of Pharmacy Services and Public Health Initiatives at The Health Wagon and St. Mary’s Faith Pharmacy, where she helped lead programs providing life-saving medications and integrated healthcare services to uninsured and vulnerable populations throughout Southwest Virginia. Her work has received national recognition for advancing rural health equity and demonstrating the evolving role of pharmacists in community and public health practice.
At ACP, Dr. Hammons is committed to mentoring the next generation of pharmacists and public health professionals, helping students understand that pharmacy extends far beyond dispensing and that healthcare leadership begins with service to the community.
Dr. Hammons lives on a ridge with her husband, Shane, their three daughters, Azzy, Mia, and Camille, and a chihuahua.
