Mayhew Appointed to SWVA Higher Education Center Board of Trustees

OAKWOOD, VA (AUGUST 14, 2025) – Appalachian College of Pharmacy Provost and Dean, Dr. Susan Mayhew, has been appointed to the Southwest Virginia Higher Education Center Board of Trustees.

The appointment was made by Virginia Gov. Glenn Youngkin and was announced August 8.

The Higher Education Center (HEC) is governed by a board of trustees that includes six members of the Virginia General Assembly; eight university presidents; two agency heads; and seven citizen members appointed by the governor. 

“I am honored to have been appointed by the governor to serve on the Southwest Virginia Higher Education Center board of trustees,” Mayhew said. “ACP and the higher ed center have worked together for several years to implement programs to benefit students in our region and I look forward to working with the board of trustees in this new capacity to continue to advance the work being done at the Southwest Virginia Higher Education Center.”

In 2023, the Appalachian College of Pharmacy entered into a partnership with the SWVA Higher Education Center which sees ACP classes offered at the Higher Ed Center in addition to being offered at the college’s Oakwood campus.

ACP offers the Commonwealth’s only accelerated three-year program leading to a Doctor of Pharmacy degree. It also offers a program of study leading to a Doctor of Public Health degree; and a Certified Pharmacy Technician program.

The Appalachian College of Pharmacy is the only three-year Doctor of Pharmacy program in the Commonwealth of Virginia. Founded in 2003, the college accepted its first students in 2005. It is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE) and the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC). The college also offers a Doctor of Public Health program and a Certified Pharmacy Technician program. Appalachian College of Pharmacy’s mission is to cultivate a learning community committed to education, community outreach and the professional development of pharmacists. Its graduate pharmacists are now practicing throughout the United States.
