Applying to the CPhT Program

Applicants who wish to apply for admission to Appalachian College of Pharmacy’s Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) program are required to submit an application through ACP’s application portal. The process also includes requesting of official high school transcript / GED certificate proving the award of a high school diploma or GED equivalency.

Application Deadlines for Fall 2025

The deadline to submit a completed application is August 15, 2025.

Complete and submit the application which includes the following:

  • Personal, Contact and Demographic Information
  • Employment History
  • Photo Id
  • Current and Past Academic History
  • Official high school transcript / GED certificate

Academic Requirements

To be eligible for admission to the Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) program, applicants must meet all of the following criteria:

  • Applicants must be 18 years or older.
  • Applicants must have earned a high school diploma or GED.
  • Students must demonstrate competency readiness for math skills using ACP’s mini-palm exam.
  • Students must demonstrate competency in English as evaluated by their understanding a patient scenario and writing an essay.  
  • An academic advisor will review student preparedness in Math and English and guide applicants to appropriate preliminary coursework to give them a greatest chance of success in the CPhT program.

Enrollment Requirements

  • Future students must submit to and pass a criminal background check. Students unable to pass a criminal background check will be prohibited from attending clinical rotations and will not be eligible to complete the program resulting in failure to obtain future employment as a pharmacy technician. Criminal background checks are conducted through a third-party vendor and all costs are the responsibility of the student.
  • Future students must complete and pass a drug test prior to clinical rotation placement. Students with a positive or inconclusive test results will be prohibited from attending clinical rotations and will not be eligible to complete the program resulting in failure to obtain future employment as a pharmacy technician. Drug tests are conducted through a third-party vendor and all costs are the responsibility of the student.
  • Our clinical affiliates require certain vaccinations and testing requirements. These requirements may change or be updated by ACP’s affiliates at any time. Vaccination and testing requirement costs are the responsibility of the student.
  • The current list of requirements may be found below.
    • Proof and record of three Hepatitis B vaccinations or proof of immunity by titer
    • Proof and record of two MMR vaccines or proof of immunity by titer
    • Proof of negative TB test (two step)
    • Proof and record of seasonal flu shot
    • Proof and record of two varicella vaccinations or proof of immunity by titer
    • Poof and record of DPT (diphtheria, tetanus, pertussis) vaccinations or proof of immunity by titer
    • Copy of BLS for Healthcare Provider (CPR) certification (front and back of card)
    • Documentation of current health insurance coverage
    • Proof and record of two Hepatitis A vaccinations or proof of series begun in the past six months
    • Voluntary disclosure of COVID-19 vaccination status
