Lura Thompson is an Assistant Professor of Pharmacy Practice and comes to ACP from nearby Tazewell, VA. She graduated from Virginia Tech with a Bachelor of Science in Biology. Lura received her Doctor of Pharmacy from the Appalachian College of Pharmacy in 2016. At ACP she was Student Leadership Council President, Vice President of National Community Pharmacists Association, and a member of Rho Chi and Kappa Psi.
After graduation she worked in retail for almost three years until she decided to further pursue her passion for chronic care management. She went on to finish a residency with ACP where she worked under the Living Well Grant through the Virginia Department of Health and Virginia Pharmacist Association. Lura’s practice site is Abingdon Internal Medicine in Abingdon, VA where she provides chronic care management to Medicare patients. Chronic care management includes diabetes self-management education and support, managing high blood pressure, high cholesterol, lifestyle modifications and more.
Lura enjoys spending time outdoors with her husband Josh, daughter Huntley, and Lab Scotch.
