Albany College of Pharmacy
to open campus in Vermont
 

ALBANY , N.Y. (October 16, 2007) - Albany College of Pharmacy is in the process of planning a campus in the greater Burlington area of Vermont . Currently, searches are underway for a dean, faculty and staff.

 

  "This expansion will allow the Vermont area access to an ongoing source of pharmacy and health care-related educational opportunities," President James J. Gozzo said. "We look forward to working in Vermont 's progressive health care system, which we are confident will provide students with a quality pharmaceutical care educational experience."

 

  Founded in 1881, Albany College of Pharmacy is the oldest pharmacy school in New York State and one of the only private, independent pharmacy schools in the United States . The college has a long history of serving its students and health care professionals as a premier pharmacy college. The college now enters a new era in health care with a focus not only on pharmacy, but also on pharmaceutical sciences, biomedical technology and research.

 

  The Pharmacy program being designed for the Vermont Campus will be a four-year professional offering. Students enrolling in this program will have four-year undergraduate degrees or will have completed all college course prerequisites prior to enrollment. The program will be phased in and when fully implemented there will be 50 to 60 full-time faculty and staff and 450 to 500 students.

 

  With support from and collaboration with local institutions, regional organizations and pharmacists throughout Vermont , ACP has been welcomed into the state. These collaborators have been and will continue to be an invaluable component of ACP's Vermont presence and ACP's efforts to achieve the goal of providing Vermonters with a first-rate pharmacy education.

 

  With more than 100,000 people in its surrounding area, the Greater Burlington area is an active community and one that has received numerous honors for its overall quality of life. Locally, Burlington offers mountain and lakeside views and activities as well as a vibrant and growing community that is rich culturally and academically.
