ACP introduces new M.S. programs

ALBANY , N.Y. (September 20, 2007) - Albany College of Pharmacy is introducing new graduate programs in pharmacy administration and health outcomes research.

ACP President James J. Gozzo, Ph.D., announced the expansion plans during a recent meeting.

"These programs will mutually benefit our graduates and the health care industry," Gozzo said. "Graduates can be a part of a growing administrative- and research-oriented health care sector, which also will benefit from having such specialized individuals."

Health care has seen a growing need for pharmacists specialized in these areas. Pharmacy administration professionals can pursue several career tracks, such as drug utilization review, program auditing, ensuring fiscal integrity and cost management. ACP equips graduates with concentrations in health outcomes to develop and supervise research activities and pharmaceutical ecomonics. Both areas contribute to overall cost effectiveness in the health care field.

"This expansion better achieves our mission by providing a broader range of health science options," Gozzo added

In five years, Dr. Gozzo sees ACP continuing to increase its enrollment in the health science fields, and the introduction of the new programs will promote interest in this area. The growing demand for these specialists secures the job market for graduates, who will contribute to the overall quality of life through health care.

Both programs are well-suited for traditional graduate students, but also accommodate others working in health care. The new M.S. programs will offer those already working in the field additional opportunities for professional development, complementing ACP's Continuing Education program, which began in the 1960s.
