Dr. Donna M. Adkins is an Associate Professor of Pharmacy Practice at the Appalachian College of Pharmacy and serves as the Chair of the Pharmacy Practice Department. She is a native of Southwest Virginia.
Dr. Adkins completed her pre-pharmacy coursework at the University of Virginia’s College at Wise (formerly known as Clinch Valley College), then attended the University of Kentucky where she earned a Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy degree in 1994 and Doctor of Pharmacy degree in 2001. She has been a Certified Geriatric Pharmacist since 2005. Dr. Adkins is a Fellow of the American Society of Consultant Pharmacists (FASCP).
Prior to joining the Appalachian College of Pharmacy, Dr. Adkins practiced in a variety of settings including long-term care, acute care, and community pharmacy. As a faculty member at ACP, she has provided ambulatory care services focusing on diabetes management, smoking cessation, anticoagulation management and geriatric care at a primary care clinic.
She is an active member of several professional organizations including the American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy (AACP), the American Pharmacists Association (APhA), the Virginia Pharmacists Association (VPhA), and the American Society of Consultant Pharmacists (ASCP).
