Brenda T. Smith

Ms. Smith is an Assistant Professor of Pharmacy Practice and the Director of Experiential Education at the Appalachian College of Pharmacy.  She is a native of Tazewell County, Virginia. 

Ms. Smith’s first career was in secondary education having received her Bachelor of Science Degree in Biology at Virginia Polytechnical Institute and her Master of Science Degree in Science Education from Radford University.  After teaching at the secondary school level for 9 years, Ms. Smith attended Virginia Commonwealth University/Medical College of Virginia where she earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Pharmacy.  She has practiced pharmacy for over 20 years in a variety of settings including community, hospital, and long-term care.  During that time, she served as a Clinical Assistant Professor at VCU/Medical College of Virginia School of Pharmacy for 21 years and  held a CPR instructor certification for 14 years.  Ms. Smith is currently certified as an Immunizing Pharmacist.

Ms. Smith has accumulated an extensive record of community service having given her time to many charitable and civic organizations, including the Wytheville Junior Women’s Club; the March of Dimes; the American Heart Association; the United Methodist Church; Agape Food Pantry; and , Brock Hughes Free Clinic in Wytheville, Virginia. In August 2010 she received the Pfizer Bowl of Hygeia Award at the Virginia Pharmacists Association’s Annual Convention for her contributions in the area of community service.

Ms. Smith is an active member of numerous professional organizations, including American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy (AACP), American Pharmacists Association (APhA), Virginia Pharmacists Association (VPhA), and Southwest Virginia Pharmacists Association (SwVPhA).  She served as a Regional Director and Deputy Director for VPhA and as President, Vice President, and Secretary- Treasurer of SwVPhA. She was awarded the Ilene B. Stiff Local Association Presidents’ Award by VPhA while president of SwVPhA. Ms. Smith is also a member of both Chi Delta Alpha Sorority and Phi Delta Chi Pharmacy Fraternity.   

Ms. Smith currently resides in Vansant, Virginia. Ms. Smith enjoys outside flea markets, flower gardens, and Danielle Steel novels.
