Sherri Dawson, Ed.D
Sherri Dawson is a professor at Southwest Virginia Community College. She teaches community health, personal wellness, nutrition, walking, and CPR and First Aid. She serves as the community program developer for the college, coordinating and implementing new offerings that appeal to a broad group of individuals and provide a wider variety of options to meet the diversified needs of the community. Sherri has presented many topics throughout the Commonwealth, including holistic wellness, stress management, time management, customer service, communication, and positive attitudes. She earned a Doctorate in Educational Leadership in Higher Education from East Tennessee State University with an in-depth dissertation study on “The Relationship among Wellness Practices and Stress Levels of Community College Presidents.”
Sherri was born in Mount Heron, Virginia, and is a graduate of Garden High School. She taught home economics for several years before gaining employment with the community college. She is an active member of the Buchanan County Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma Society International for key women educators and the Levisa River Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution.
Sherri makes her home at South Holston Lake in Abingdon, Virginia with her husband Ray and yellow lab “Levisa." She loves to swim, ski, walk, bike ride, garden, and enjoys the solitude of sitting on the dock with her feet in the water; watching the sun set on a quiet summer evening.
