Endowed Funds

Endowment income is often the key to sustaining a variety of programs at nonprofit institutions, in the face of rising costs in the economy. The two most common types of endowed gifts are as follows.

A general gift to the endowment:

Moderates tuition increases
Enables faculty and students to pursue research
Provides revenue in years when enrollment is flat or declining
Helps attract the best and brightest faculty - this is especially important in light of the looming faculty shortage created by the retirement of many baby boom-era professors and the increasing attractiveness of community and clinical sites.

A restricted gift to the endowment may be designated to support areas such as:

Student scholarships
Academic chairs
Lectureships
Library collections

Student Scholarships

Albany College of Pharmacy is dedicated to providing an outstanding and high-value education at a reasonable cost. We recognize, however that the cost of an ACP education may be out of reach for some students. The appeal of establishing a student scholarship fund is that a donor can choose to direct the funds in a manner that is most meaningful to the individual. Endowed scholarships may cover the cost of tuition, textbooks or travel to professional conferences. Contributing to an existing scholarship or creating one can be key to enabling a qualified student to take advantage of an ACP education. That is a priceless gift.

Academic Chairs

An educational institution is only as strong as its faculty. ACP is fortunate to have devoted, gifted professors who teach, inspire and mentor. Contributing endowed funds toward an academic chair helps strengthen ACP's goal of recruiting and retaining outstanding faculty members.

Lectureships

Endowed lectureships serve the dual purpose of giving the College community the benefit of hearing from experts in a chosen field as well as helping to elevate the reputation of ACP. Endowed lectureships, which typically bring in speakers on an annual basis, may take a variety of forms. Some possibilities include: renowned scientists who can speak to areas of research pursued by ACP faculty, leaders in education who can offer new research and teaching techniques, and nationally or internationally known health care experts who can provide students and faculty with a larger view of the world and their connection to it.

A healthy endowment is essential to the continued growth of Albany College of Pharmacy. Whether it is a general gift or a restricted gift, there are numerous ways to contribute to ACP's endowment—and each is truly an investment in the future of the college.
