Non-traditional Doctor of Pharmacy Program Courses
The Non-traditional Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.) program offers practicing pharmacists the opportunity to obtain the Pharm.D. degree using non-traditional course delivery and full- or part-time completion of clerkships. The courses are provided by College faculty. Pharmacists are required to complete at least two courses or a maximum of eight credits on a non-matriculated basis prior to acceptance into the program. All requirements must be completed within five years of the matriculation date. A computer with Internet access, e-mail and CD-ROM is required. Students also must have access to a medical library.
New applications to this program are no longer being accepted.
Format: Candidates must demonstrate competency in didactic coursework, seminar and clerkship.
Didactic: The course information is delivered primarily via audio and lecture materials on CD-ROM. Other formats also may be included in the program. Candidates have up to six months to complete a course. The student establishes a local proctor in close proximity. The proctor will keep secure, administer and forward the completed examinations to the College. Faculty members correct the exams at two predetermined times during each semester.
Clerkships: A total of five rotations are required (four traditional, of which two are elective, and one continuity-of-care clerkship). Traditional clerkships may be completed full-time over five weeks (five days per week) or, if available, part-time over 10 weeks (2.5 days per week). Rotation waivers will be considered for pharmacists with significant clinical experience and certified through the Board of Pharmaceutical Specialties on a case-to-case basis.
Seminar: Students will complete a series of seminar presentations including one seminar at the College. Additionally, the student is required to attend and evaluate a determined number of presentations delivered by other health professionals.
