Licensure
Licensing of Pharmacists in New York State
Pharmacists are licensed by the New York State Education Department, State Board of Pharmacy. To obtain a license to practice pharmacy in New York, the Doctor of Pharmacy graduate of an accredited school or college of pharmacy must successfully complete a series of State Board Examinations.
In addition, the candidate for licensure must be of sound moral character and be a citizen of the United States; or in the case of foreign students, candidates must possess the "green card" that grants permanent resident status.
Each licensed pharmacist is required to register with the State Education Department, Board of Pharmacy, every three years.
A person who has been convicted of a misdemeanor or felony related to drug use or sale may not be eligible for the licensing examination.
To determine eligibility, contact the New York State Board of Pharmacy, Cultural Education Center, Room 3035, Albany, NY 12230, (518) 474-3848.
