Panthers fall at Clinton in NIC final
Clinton CC 2, ACP 0
Saturday, October 15
On a cold and often rainy afternoon, Clinton Community College scored goals early in each half to defeat ACP 2-0 in the Northern Independence Conference championship game. It is the third consecutive year the Cougars have beaten ACP in the final.
Clinton (14-2) took a 1-0 lead just 1:30 into the game. The Panthers (6-5-1) kept the game tight with a stingy defense and remained within a goal heading into halftime. But the Cougars extended the margin to 2-0 just five minutes into the second half, and managed to stifle several good scoring chances for the Panthers the rest of the way.
ACP 7, North Country CC 0
Saturday, October 15
Sarah Gruber had a hat trick and Alissa Phillips scored twice as ACP advanced to the Northern Independence Conference championship game for the fourth consecutive year with a 7-0 victory over North Country Community College.
The Panthers (6-4-1) will meet Clinton Community College for the league title in Plattsburgh on Tuesday. Clinton has knocked off the Panthers in the championship game each of the last two seasons and won 3-0 at ACP on September 13.
Playing North Country at home for the second time in nine days, the Panthers won by the identical score as Meaghan Owen recorded her third consecutive shutout and fifth of the season.
Gruber opened the scoring with an unassisted goal five minutes in. Phillips made it 2-0 at the 15-minute mark on a breakaway. Five minutes later, Marianne Andreini sent a cross to Justine Marryott, who converted to give ACP a 3-0 halftime advantage.
That score held up for the first 30 minutes of the second half until Gruber scored on a long shot to touch off a late scoring flurry. Phillips scored three minutes later to make it 5-0, and sweeper Katelin Maki drilled home a shot from near midfield just three minutes after that. Gruber closed the scoring with one minute left, finishing a cross from Megan Brown.

Sarah Gruber and Alyssa Davis each had a goal and an assist and Katelin Maki scored her first goal of the season to help ACP close the regular season with a 7-0 Northern Independence Conference victory over injury-depleted North Country Community College .
North Country was able to dress only eight players for the match, and the Panthers (5-4-1 overall, 2-1 NIC) took advantage to clinch home-field advantage for the NIC semifinals Saturday, October 15.
Gruber started the scoring 10 minutes into the game off of a corner kick from Davis . Brandy Barniak followed with a goal, off an assist from Gruber, to make it 2-0. With five minutes left in the half, Megan Brown contributed her second goal of the season to make the score 3-0 at halftime.
Maria Fatiga, Davis, Kim Whalley and Maki all found the back of the net to complete the scoring. Maki blasted in a perfect shot from about 30 yards to net her first goal of the season.
The Panthers are off until the NIC semifinals. The winner of that game will advance to play at Clinton Community College on Tuesday, October 18. Clinton won 3-0 at ACP last month and defeated the Panthers 3-2 in double overtime in last year's championship game.
ACP 6, Word of Life Bible Institute 0
Tuesday, October 4
Beginning to peak at the right time of the season, ACP easily handled Word of Life Bible Institute 6-0, led by two goals apiece from Sarah Gruber and Alissa Phillips.

As has been the case all year, Kim Whalley created a scoring opportunity off of a corner kick when she perfectly placed one into the middle of the field, which Gruber headed into the back of the net. Phillips completed the scoring for the day when she finished off of a pass from Amanda Vincentini.
ACP 3, Hudson Valley CC 3
Tuesday, September 27
Back home after consecutive games on the road, ACP played to a thrilling 3-3 tie against local rival Hudson Valley Community College .
After falling behind 1-0, Alissa Phillips tied the game for the Panthers (3-4-1) when she blasted in a shot 30 minutes into the first half for a 1-1 tie at the intermission. It remained that way until 27 minutes into the second half when Kim Whalley perfectly placed a corner kick into the net, beating the HVCC goalie to give ACP a 2-1 lead.
After HVCC tied the score at two, Sarah Gruber scored off an assist from Alyssa Davis to put the Panthers in the lead again. And HVCC answered again to force overtime. Playing in monsoon-like conditions on the road in Utica and missing several players, ACP dropped a 2-0 decision to SUNY Institute of Technology.
The Panthers (3-4) hung tough against one of the stronger teams on the schedule. Meaghan Owen stopped a season-high 15 shots in goal to help keep the game close. ACP held SUNY IT scoreless in the first half but couldn't hold off the powerful Wildcat attack in the second half.

Clinton Community College 3, ACP 0
Tuesday, September 13
A rash of injuries, including the loss of one its most valuable offensive players, proved too much for ACP to overcome in a rematch of the heartbreaking double-overtime loss to Clinton Community College in last year's Northern Independence Conference championship game.
Clinton wore down the Panthers for a 3-0 victory, a defeat compounded by the loss of striker Kay Urban, who suffered a broken leg early on one game after scoring twice in ACP's first victory of the season. The Panthers (1-2 overall, 1-1 NIC) soon lost another key player, midfielder/defender Amanda Vincentini, with a foot injury.
Despite the injuries, the game remained a scoreless tie until the visitors broke through late in the first half for a 1-0 lead. ACP pressed for the equalizer for the first 25 minutes of the second half, allowing Clinton to move the ball out of its end of the field just three times. Clinton withstood ACP's pressure, and after ACP sweeper Katelin Maki aggravated a leg injury, Clinton scored twice more late in the game.
Meaghan Owen made four saves for the Panthers.
ACP 8, Paul Smith's College 0
Sunday, September 11
Kay Urban scored twice and Sarah Gruber had a goal and three assists as ACP rebounded one day later from its season-opening loss with an 8-0 home victory over Paul Smith's College in the first Northern Independence Conference game of the season.
Brandy Barniak also assisted on two goals, and Megan Owen recorded four saves for the shutout.
Urban started the scoring at 28:04 of the first half off a beautiful cross from Barniak. Megan Brown made it 2-0 nine minutes later off a cross from Justine Marryott. It was 3-0 when captain Sam Davis scored with 3:33 remaining in the half, and the Panthers capitalized on a long clear from sweeper Katelin Maki with Alyssa Davis' goal with just one minute remaining for a 4-0 halftime lead.
Gruber assisted on the first two goals of the second half, the first by freshman Alissa Philips and the second by Urban off a corner kick. Gruber converted a pass from Barniak to make it 7-0, and Miranda Cole closed the scoring when she used her knee to deflect in a Gruber shot.
Springfield Tech 4, ACP 0
Saturday, September 10
Springfield Technical Community College scored three times in the second half to break open a hard-fought game and spoil ACP's season-opener with a 4-0 victory.
Nora Healy scored three goals for the visiting Rams, and keeper Crystal Levesque stopped all six shots she faced to record the shutout.
Trailing 1-0 at halftime, ACP mounted several attacks early in the second half, led by Sarah Gruber, Kay Urban and Alissa Phillips. The defense, led by the strong play of Katelin Maki, Amanda Vincentini and Samantha Davis, turned aside numerous chances by the powerful Springfield Tech attack before Healy and the Rams broke through.
Megan Owen helped keep the game close with eight saves for the Panthers.
