all-conference honors for five

ALBANY, N.Y. (November 17, 2006) - Five members of the ACP men's and women's soccer teams have earned all-conference honors after leading their teams to league championships this fall. The recognition included the Northern Independence Conference Student-Athlete Award in both sports.

In men's soccer, forwards Brandon Schenck (Jasper, N.Y.) and Erik Voss (Round Top, N.Y.) joined defender Scott McCabe (South Glens Falls, N.Y.) on the all-conference team. The Panthers went 11-2 for the second year in a row and won their second consecutive NIC title.

Schenck, a sophomore, led the Panthers with 10 goals. Voss, a fifth-year student in his final season of eligibility, was second on the team with eight goals and also led the Panthers with eight assists. Schenck and Voss combined for all three goals as ACP rallied from a 2-0 deficit in the NIC title game at home Oct. 17 against North Country Community College . Schenck also received the NIC Student-Athlete Award. McCabe, a fourth-year student, anchored a defense that recorded four shutouts and allowed one goal five times.

In women's soccer, leading scorers Sarah Gruber (Danvers, Mass.) and Kay Urban (Waverly, N.Y.) earned all-conference recognition. Gruber, a midfielder and fourth-year student, led the Panthers (8-4) with 18 goals as they won the conference championship for the first time since 2000. Urban, a forward, was second on the team with six goals. Gruber, whose 63 goals are fifth on the ACP career list, also won the Scholar-Athlete Award for the fourth consecutive season.
