ACP basketball teams complete

first-ever NIC athletics sweep

ALBANY, N.Y. (February 18, 2007) - The ACP men's and women's basketball teams completed an historic double sweep yesterday.

Both teams captured Northern Independence Conference titles - the men with a 79-62 win over North Country Community College, and the women with a 93-42 win over Clinton Community College. Those victories also gave ACP a sweep of all four NIC championships this school year, matching the men's and women's soccer titles last fall.

It is the first time in conference history one school has worn all four crowns in the same academic year. For more coverage, visit the Athletics section of the ACP Web site.

The women's victory at home in the Albert M. White Gymnasium gave ACP its fourth consecutive NIC title. The Panthers (15-3) have not lost to a conference opponent since January 2004, a string of 18 consecutive victories. The Panthers finished the season winning 10 of their final 11 games overall.

The men's title was ACP's first in more than a decade and capped an amazing turnaround.

The Panthers (15-10) were 2-9 after returning from two losses in the Bahama House Classic in Florida in early January. They then ripped off 11 consecutive wins, including the first-ever victories over NCAA Division III opponents for the men's program, and finished the season winning 13 of their final 14 games.
