ACP’s four-year B.S. in Biomedical Technology degree is focused on diagnostic laboratory professions.

During the freshman year, students in the program enjoy opportunities to explore both the Clinical Laboratory Sciences and Cytotechnology concentrations and to interact with students further along in the program. Like other programs at the College, the B.S. in Biomedical Technology offers a liberal arts core that encourages personal intellectual growth and a sense of professionalism.

Professional courses in the Clinical Laboratory Sciences concentration begin in the junior year and continue through the summer between the junior and senior years. In the fall and spring of the senior year, students spend three days a week in clinical laboratories around the Capital Region. Classes on campus on Mondays and Fridays offer not only laboratory management and molecular diagnostics, but also the opportunity to perform clinical correlations, during which students integrate the information from all clinical laboratory testing to build a comprehensive picture of the patient's health.

Upon completion of the program, students are eligible to take a national certification examination. The opportunities open to graduates are many. The program prepares students for entry into the clinical or anatomic laboratories of hospitals, reference laboratories, or research institutions. In addition, students may pursue careers in the laboratory diagnostic, health care or pharmaceutical industry. Graduates also are well prepared for entrance into graduate, medical, dental, veterinary and law school programs.

The B.S. in Biomedical Technology degree program has clinical affiliations with the following hospitals: St. Peter’s Hospital, NorthEast Health, Ellis Hospital, Seton Health, Albany Medical Center Hospital, Sunrise Medical Associates, Stratton VA Hospital and the New York State Department of Health Wadsworth Center for Laboratories and Research. In addition, the College participates in an academic affiliation with The College of St. Rose.
