ACP faculty members receive professional honors

ALBANY, N.Y. (March 20, 2007) - Two members of ACP's Department of Pharmacy Practice have earned certification from the Board of Pharmaceutical Specialties, an independent arm of the American Pharmaceutical Association.

 

Associate Professor Aimee Strang '98, Pharm.D., and Instructor Anne Myrka, CGP, have earned the designation of Board Certified Pharmacotherapy Specialist (BCPS). They are among only 564 pharmacists to receive the BCPS designation in 2006, bringing the total to 3,688 nationwide.

BPS-certified pharmacy specialists are recognized for their advanced level of knowledge, skills and achievements by government agencies and health care organizations throughout the United States . Board certification is the pharmacy industry's highest credential in five specialty practice areas: oncology pharmacy, nuclear pharmacy, psychiatric pharmacy, nutrition support pharmacy and pharmacotherapy. Fourteen ACP faculty members are board certified - 11 in pharmacotherapy, one in pharmacotherapy and psychiatric pharmacy, one in psychiatric pharmacy and one in oncology.

A resident of West Sand Lake , Dr. Strang earned her Doctor of Pharmacy from ACP in 1998 and joined the faculty in 2001. Ms. Myrka earned a B.S. in Pharmacy from ACP in 1992 and a Master's of Art in Teaching Science from SUNY New Paltz. An Albany resident, Ms. Myrka joined the faculty in 2004. She also is a certified geriatric pharmacist.

Founded in 1881, Albany College of Pharmacy is the oldest pharmacy school in New York state and one of the only private, independent pharmacy schools in the United States . The college has a long history of serving its students and health care professionals as one of the premier pharmacy colleges in the nation. The college now enters a new era in health care with a focus not only on pharmacy, but also on pharmaceutical sciences, biomedical technology and research.
