As Scene on Campus -- Volume 34
February 28, 2007
ACP kicked off its ACP Academy this month with a welcome event for students and their families on February 12 (middle row, right) and the first session of the after-school program the following afternoon. ACP Academy is a mentoring program that engages 28 third-grade students from Albany's Delaware Community School in the sciences and math. The program is staffed by a teacher from the elementary school and 24 ACP student mentors.
ACP Academy is part of the Help Yourself Foundation, started in 2005 by former Union College President Roger Hull, S.J.D., to create college-based programs for potential scholars. The eight-week program meets twice a week on campus. It strives to interest elementary school children in the sciences and math, and to encourage them to pursue a college education.
