A 1987 ACP graduate, Flynn has been a full-time faculty member at the College since 2002 and is an instructor in the Department of Pharmacy Practice. Both the Professional Teacher of the Year and the Traditional Teacher of the Year (see below) are voted on by students in years 1 - 5 of all of the college's degree programs.

Chandrasekara Honored as Traditional Teacher of the Year

Ray Chandrasekara received the 2007- 08 Traditional Teacher of the Year award, recognizing an outstanding faculty member in the first two years of the curriculum. Dr. Chandrasekara teaches literature and communications and has been a faculty member since 2003.

Pharmaceutical Sciences Professor Bob Levin has been named the recipient of the 2008-2010 Rudolph and Dorothy Blythe Research Award. His project (titled "Can the combination of coenzyme Q10 and alpha lipoic acid reverse the ischemia induced by partial outlet obstruction in rabbits?") received a funding award of $23,000.

Picture of the Week: Area High School Students Present at PRI

Earlier this week, about 30 high school students from the area delivered presentations on scientific research they conducted at the Pharmaceutical Research Institute over the past year.

The schools represented in the program were: Albany H.S., Academy of the Holy Names, Troy H.S., Coxsackie- Athens H.S., Ravena-Coeymans-Selkirk H.S., Taconic Hills H.S., Hudson H.S., Watervliet Junior/Senior H.S., Ichabod Crane Central H.S., Coxsackie-Athens H.S., Catskill H.S. and Berlin H.S.

Fox 23 (WXXA) was there to cover the event. The v ideo is available online.

ACP Fellow to Publish First Research Manuscript

ACP Fellow of Infectious Diseases Nimish Patel's '06, Pharm.D., is the principal author of a study to be published in an upcoming edition of Antimicrobial Agents and Chemotherapy. Tom Lodise, associate professor in the Department of Pharmacy Practice and Nimish's fellow, is a co-author of the study.

The title of the study is "The relationship between varying prior antibiotic exposure definitions and piperacillin/tazobactam resistance among patients with Pseudomonas aeruginosa respiratory tract infections."

Student from China Pharmaceutical University to Do Fellowship at ACP

Assistant Professor Carlos Feleder has obtained a $70,000 fellowship for a Ph.D. candidate from China to manage the day-to-day research activities related to his recently secured NIH grant. The $231,000 grant will fund research on the role of the spleen in managing fever.

Xiujuan Yao, a student at the China Pharmaceutical University in Nanjing, will arrive on campus in September and stay for a period of two years. She will essentially "run" the project under the supervision of Dr. Feleder and work closely with ACP students.

"Hopefully, this fellowship will be the first step in building an ongoing relationship between the China Pharmaceutical university and ACP - one that will benefit students from both schools for years to come," said Dr. Feleder, who will travel to China for the Ph.D. dissertation, in his role as co-director of her Ph.D. thesis.

The fellowship is being funded by China's Postgraduate Scholarship Program which aims to improve scientific collaboration between foreign institutions and Chinese universities.

Get an ACP E-Mail for Life!

The office of Institutional Advancement has contracted with Google to offer all alumni an ACP e-mail account that will literally last a lifetime. This e-mail account - which will have an e-mail address of username@alumni.acphs.edu - will provide an excellent way to keep in touch with your fellow classmates and other alumni through the years. It's also a unique way to maintain a connection to the College.

To acquire your ACP alumni e-mail address, please send an e-mail to alumni@acphs.edu with the following information:

    • Full Name
    • Class Year
    • Telephone Number
    • E-Mail Address (if available)

Once your information is received, the College will set up your new e-mail account and follow up with instructions on how to get started. There will also be a link established to the E-mail Log-in page via the Alumni Relations tab on the ACP Web site to make it as convenient as possible for you to use.

All @alumni.acphs.edu accounts share the same features as Google's popular G-Mail service, including:

    • 6+ GB of e-mail storage
    • 20 MB attachment limit
    • Google Talk instant messaging
    • Ability to have e-mails automatically forwarded to another e-mail address

There are no costs associated with establishing or maintaining an ACP alumni e-mail address. Neither ACP nor Google have access to individual accounts, other than to reset passwords or delete them altogether.
